Historic Background

Villa Barattieri Detail

The Count Barattieri's family arrived in Albarola in 1796

following the marriage between Maria Trevani and Alberico Barattieri. The Barattieri, according to some genealogists might have come originally from Venice or from the East. According to others it was a family forced, for centuries, to move from city to city. The name Barattieri comes from barattieri - swindler - or biscazzieri - bookie.

San Pietro in Cerro Castle

The family origin in the Piacentino area

is, however, documented since the 13th century, and from 1391 its presence is confirmed by the edification of San Pietro in Cerro's Castle, commissioned by Bartolomeo Barattieri.

Furthermore, It is worth to mention Count Guido Barattieri

who was Piacenza's Governor in 1848, to remember that the Barattieri family has always held important social and administrative positions within the local society, often related to Law and Administration.

by Giacomo Sartorio on a pre-existent settlement. The facade looks out on a beautiful green, while a Doric Colonnade leads to an inner courtyard and gardens where fruit trees, roses and allegoric statues stand together harmoniously.
